MESSAGE FOR EASTER: STAY STEADFAST

The body of Kenyan doctors has historically been sidelined in key decision making and thus has suffered serious neglect since independence.  With the formation of KMPDU 5 years ago, doctors announced their presence at the decision making table. As KMPDU marks its 5th Year Anniversary later this year, no more doubt is left in our minds on what collectively we can achieve as doctors under KMPDU. That journey was, is and will still be eventful. Changing political environments and labor policies will as well mean the union re-engineers its strategies from time to time anchored on making better  and better the welfare and compensation for all doctors laboring sacrificially across the Republic of Kenya.

While some individuals previously fanned the fallacy that the individual success of a doctor doesn’t depend on what is done collectively under the union, the facts show otherwise. The premise of individual hard work, innovation and enterprise can only be protected and expanded in a conducive environment of collegiality among the professionals and collective responsibility to each other. Thus be thy brother’s and sister’s keeper. Union means UNITY.

This Easter holiday should be that time of reflecting on the impact of our individual actions on the profession and the union. We at the National Executive Council are proud of the many of you who give all effort and sacrifices to the union, sometimes against all odds. It is the only way KMPDU has achieved tremendously in a poisoned and devolved political environment that rewards only greed, sycophancy and patronage.  Even the most senior and most educated amongst us at the highest echelons of management are subjected to inhumane and unlawful treatments by the political establishment in a Health Sector where disorder is the norm and professionalism was long forgotten. These issues are more serious than we have cared to give attention to them. No one else but us must be the ones to champion the establishment of standardized human resources for health management across the national and county government.

KMPDU is intensely engaged to ensure no further delays are experienced with the implementation of the schemes of services. We hope nearly all of you except those at MoH have been or are being promoted. Doctors completing their Internship should expect their posting to the counties beginning 30th March 2016. Our database development plan suffered legal hurdles and delays which have now been resolved. We have noted the concerns of discrimination on Mortgage and Car Loans denied to doctors.

Finally, let me congratulate and introduce our newly Elected Branch Leaders. KMPDU has never been stronger than it is now. Give your maximum support to the following Leaders as they discharge their duties to none but yourselves.
