KMPDU and Mombasa County Leadership Consultative Meeting.

We had a meeting with the county Government of Mombasa led by the Governor Ali Hassan Joho and officials of the department of health together with the CECM Finance.

The discussions revolved around issues affecting doctors in Mombasa county including the recall of doctors undertaking post- graduate training and the reinstatement of doctors who had been hired on contract during the COVID-19 pandemic period. This meeting was very important to unlock the stalled negotiations between KMPDU and Mombasa county. Social dialogue between employers and the Union ultimately is the quickest avenue to resolve labour disputes between employers and employees. It is one of the best frameworks that is available to us as a union to engage with the employer formally and informally.
The engagement today was very fruitful and we eventually agreed on a framework that will guide our engagement moving forward that will ensure that we resolve all the issues that have been pending between the county and the union as well as address the issue of post graduate training.
At the end of the day, our objective as a union is to ensure that our members welfare issues are addressed satisfactorily to ensure industrial harmony in the health sector.
