KISUMU – Aug 17, 2025
We mourn the 27 precious lives lost in the tragic accident at the Coptic roundabout on the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway.
As doctors, we witness firsthand the devastating impact of such tragedies on families and communities. Our heartfelt condolences go to the bereaved families, and we stand with them during this time of deep sorrow.
We also recognize the courage and swift action of the first responders and health workers who worked tirelessly to save lives amidst the chaos.
This heartbreaking event must serve as a wake-up call. The Kisumu-Kakamega Highway and other known blackspots require urgent redesign and safety interventions to prevent further unnecessary loss of life.
KMPDU calls on the Ministry of Transport, Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), and all relevant agencies to take immediate action to address these danger zones. Road safety is a matter of life and death, and every delay puts more lives at risk.
KMPDU remains committed to advocating for stronger, safer health and social systems, because every life matters.
