The Health Service Commission (HSC) of Kenya is responsible for the recruitment and placement of both medical and diaspora doctors in the public health sector. The commission ensures that the resources of the public medical system are allocated fairly and transparently among all the health institutions. The commission also manages grievance mechanisms, maintains ethical standards and provides career guidance to prospective applicants. The commission has implemented various initiatives over the years to improve the country’s access to healthcare services, such as the establishment of medical networks and the implementation of national health insurance schemes. The HSC of Kenya was nominated by the African Union for the 2020 ‘Excellent Public Service award‘.
