KMPDU at the 14th LAPFUND AGM – Defending Doctors’ Pension Rights

KISUMU, May 27 2025

KMPDU was proudly represented at the 14th LAPFUND Annual General Meeting by our National Deputy General Secretary, Dr. Miskellah, and Western Branch Chairman, Dr. Makomere.

The event followed last evening’s launch of LAPFUND’s new Strategic Plan, where KMPDU reaffirmed its commitment to collaborate with LAPFUND on two key fronts:

  • Recruitment of more members into the Fund, and

  • Aggressive pursuit of debt collection from employers, especially county governments, who illegally withhold employees’ pension contributions.

Withholding statutory deductions is not just illegal — it is an act of cruelty.
Workers deserve to retire with dignity, not desperation.

County governments remain among the worst offenders, deducting pension contributions without remitting them. This practice leaves doctors and other healthcare workers without benefits at the end of their service.

KMPDU will not remain silent. We are preparing to:

  • Take legal action against defaulting employers

  • Initiate extra-legal measures, including strikes where necessary

  • Petition Parliament to enact a law for deduction at source

  • Request representation on the LAPFUND Board of Trustees, given the increasing number of KMPDU members in the Fund

We congratulate the LAPFUND Board and Management for hosting a successful AGM and for their openness to full union participation.

Together, we shall continue fighting for the rights and dignity of all healthcare workers.

VIVA KMPDU! VIVA LABOUR!
