The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) today held a follow-up engagement with the Ministry of Health, led by Cabinet Secretary for Health Hon. Aden Duale, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure the implementation of commitments affecting doctors across the country.
The meeting focused on two critical issues that remain a priority for the Union: the payment of outstanding postgraduate training fees and the settlement of pending Ministry of Health arrears. These matters have significant implications not only for the welfare of doctors but also for the long-term sustainability of Kenya’s healthcare workforce.
Protecting Medical Training and Career Progression
Postgraduate training remains a cornerstone of healthcare system strengthening. Kenya’s growing demand for specialist services depends on doctors being able to pursue advanced training without unnecessary financial barriers or administrative delays.
KMPDU reiterated the need for the timely release of postgraduate fees to ensure that doctors undertaking specialist training can continue their studies uninterrupted. Investing in postgraduate education is an investment in the future of healthcare delivery, helping to build the specialist workforce required to meet the country’s evolving health needs.
Resolving Outstanding Arrears
The Union also followed up on outstanding arrears owed to doctors under the Ministry of Health. KMPDU emphasized that the timely settlement of agreed obligations is essential in maintaining trust, improving morale, and safeguarding industrial harmony within the sector.
While significant progress has been made in implementing historical commitments affecting healthcare workers, the Union maintains that all pending obligations must be fully honoured within the agreed timelines.
