KMPDU Meets Health CS Hon. Aden Duale: Key Resolutions Reached

On April 10, 2025, the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) held a high-level meeting with the newly appointed Cabinet Secretary for Health, Hon. Aden Duale, to address pressing issues affecting doctors nationwide. The engagement yielded concrete commitments from the Ministry of Health and relevant government agencies, marking significant progress in ongoing negotiations.

  1. Medical Interns: Balloting to be conducted this month. All interns to be placed and paid by July 1, 2025, in line with the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

  2. Medical Insurance: Access to the Specialized Health Access (SHA) scheme to be restored within two weeks.

  3. Registrar Fees: The Ministry of Health’s Public Health Department to clear pending fees within 30 days.

  4. Ministry of Health Salary Arrears: Verification process begins April 15, with payments expected by end of May.

  5. Government Doctors’ Arrears: 1,000 doctors to receive payments by end of April; final batch by July/August.

  6. Payslips: Revised salaries to be reflected from July 2025, with full implementation by August 2025.

  7. UHC COVID-19 Doctors: 114 doctors under the program to be transitioned to permanent and pensionable terms within three weeks.
