On Monday of 22nd January 2024, morning ,KMPDU held a breakfast meeting with the CS for Health, Madam Susan Nakhumicha, to follow up on the Kericho Declaration.’
Amongst the issues discussed were:
1. Interns’ posting – which will happen in February. A follow-up meeting with the PS Mary Muthoni is scheduled for next week.
2. Enhanced medical cover for our members – now that the Social Health Insurance scheme has terminated the Civil Servant’s scheme. A meeting is scheduled between the Social Health Authority and the Health sector unions to discuss SHA regulations. Further discussion is set on comprehensive medical cover with regards to the medical allowance that was relinquished by civil servants.
3. Postgraduate training – The Ministry agreed to fast-track the payment of university school fees. We shall do a follow-up in February.
4. Ministry and CoG to expedite CBA negotiations and implementation.
We have agreed to have quarterly meetings chaired by the CS. We thank Waziri for always being ready to meet with the unions and also for acknowledging that unions and government are social partners that must walk together for meaningful and progressive gains in the health sector.
