Landmark Agreement Averts Festive Season Strike

KMPDU has signed a landmark agreement that successfully averted a festive season industrial action, marking a significant victory for doctors and the public health system. Following sustained engagement and negotiations, medical interns will resume duty on 23 December 2024, with their monthly pay set at KSh 206,000 and the process of settling salary arrears now underway.

Beyond resolving the interns’ impasse, the agreement delivers far-reaching gains across the profession. It secures the promotion of over 400 doctors, commits to the payment of registrars’ school fees, and restores comprehensive medical cover, addressing long-standing concerns around welfare, training, and workplace dignity.

KMPDU acknowledges the tireless efforts of its officials, members, and partners who stood firm throughout this struggle, as well as the solidarity shown by global allies who amplified the call for justice and fairness in healthcare employment.

This victory is achieved in the shadow of loss. We dedicate these gains to the colleagues we lost during the struggle—their sacrifices continue to remind us why the fight for a just, humane, and functional health system must never waver.

Unity works. No doctor is left behind.
