After sustained engagement and firm negotiations, KMPDU has successfully secured critical wins for doctors at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH). This agreement marks a significant step in improving working conditions, fair compensation, and job security for our members.
Among the key achievements is the transition of all eligible contract doctors with over one year of service to permanent and pensionable terms by April 30, 2025—ending the uncertainty of contract employment. Additionally, a joint committee will oversee the payment of outstanding basic salary arrears, ensuring implementation based on the SRC job evaluation. Doctors will also benefit from a comprehensive medical insurance plan, providing much-needed healthcare security.
Career progression has also been addressed, with immediate promotions for those who applied for competitive positions, reflected in the February payroll. Moving forward, promotions will be conducted annually. Study leave will now be implemented per the MTRH/KMPDU CBA guidelines, ensuring doctors have the necessary support for professional development. Importantly, no doctor will face disciplinary action for participating in industrial action, reinforcing our collective bargaining power.
This agreement is a testament to our unity and resilience. While this victory is significant, our fight for better working conditions and fair treatment continues. We remain vigilant to ensure full implementation. To all doctors—thank you for standing firm. To MTRH—let’s collaborate to make healthcare better for all.
