Reflecting on our recent Kamukunji with platform, in the heart of our discussions were the stark challenges they confront daily – a critical shortage of medical staff, a disheartening restriction on pursuing postgraduate training, and the overarching issue of unemployment, casting a shadow over the already burdened healthcare system. The impassioned conversations brought to light the unwavering dedication of our healthcare professionals, who tirelessly strive to deliver quality services despite the odds. Moreover, the contempt of court orders on promotions of doctors further emphasizes the need for a comprehensive resolution. The call for action is clear – we must address these systemic challenges, ensuring that our doctors have the opportunities they deserve for professional growth and that our community receives the healthcare it rightfully deserves. It is noteworthy that the Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union(KMPDU)ย plans to issue a strike notice against Mombasa County within the next 7 days, adding urgency to the need for addressing these critical issues.
