The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Nyanza Branch has secured a series of commitments from the Kisii County Government aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery, improving working conditions for doctors, and enhancing patient care across the county.
During a high-level engagement held at the Kisii Consultants’ Dinner, representatives of the County Government and KMPDU held constructive discussions on critical workforce and service delivery challenges facing the health sector. The meeting resulted in ten key resolutions designed to address longstanding concerns affecting medical practitioners and the communities they serve.
Among the resolutions agreed upon were the immediate provision of essential tools and equipment for service delivery, promotion and re-designation of eligible doctors by November 2026, settlement of pending basic salary arrears arising from the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), confirmation of doctors serving under probationary terms, and enhancement of the county’s medical insurance scheme ahead of the expiry of the current contract. The county also committed to completing the ongoing recruitment exercise within one week, supporting annual recruitment plans, strengthening the outreach consultants’ programme, ensuring timely payment of salaries and allowances, facilitating continuous professional development, and institutionalizing regular engagements with the Union.
KMPDU welcomes these commitments and will closely monitor their implementation to ensure that the resolutions translate into tangible improvements for healthcare workers and patients alike. The Union remains committed to constructive engagement with county governments as a pathway to building a motivated health workforce, strengthening public healthcare systems, and guaranteeing quality healthcare services for all Kenyans.
