KMPDU, KUTRRH Leadership and Nairobi Chapter Leaders Move to Fast-Track Pending CBAs

NAIROBI: Oct 24,2026

The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has engaged Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) Chief Executive Officer Dr. Zeinab Gura, the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), and KMPDU Nairobi Chapter leadership to advocate for the fast-tracking and signing of outstanding Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs).

The engagement underscores the Union’s continued commitment to constructive dialogue and meaningful stakeholder collaboration in advancing healthcare workers’ welfare, securing fair working conditions, and ensuring that negotiated agreements progress towards implementation.

Advancing the Signing of Outstanding CBAs

Collective Bargaining Agreements are essential instruments for defining employment terms and conditions, safeguarding workers’ rights, and providing a framework for labour relations between employees and their employers. Their timely conclusion and implementation are important to ensuring predictability, accountability, and fairness in the workplace.

Through its engagement with KUTRRH leadership, SRC representatives, and KMPDU Nairobi Chapter leaders, the Union is pressing for outstanding CBAs to be fast-tracked and signed. The focus remains on ensuring that these agreements move forward through the necessary processes and that commitments relating to healthcare workers’ employment conditions receive the attention they require.

KMPDU maintains that sustained engagement among the relevant stakeholders is necessary to address outstanding issues, facilitate progress, and strengthen confidence in collective bargaining as a mechanism for resolving workplace concerns.

Placing Healthcare Workers’ Welfare at the Centre of Service Delivery

Staff welfare is a fundamental component of quality healthcare delivery. Healthcare professionals require fair working conditions, respect for their professional rights, and confidence that negotiated employment agreements will be honoured.

A motivated and supported healthcare workforce is essential to the effective delivery of health services. When workers’ welfare is prioritised, healthcare institutions are better positioned to foster professional commitment, workplace stability, and an environment in which healthcare professionals can focus on providing quality care to patients.

KMPDU therefore continues to advocate for working conditions that uphold the dignity of healthcare professionals and recognise their contribution to the health system. The Union’s position is that the protection of workers’ rights and the delivery of quality patient care are complementary priorities that must be pursued together.

Sustaining Constructive Dialogue and Accountability

Engagement with hospital management, regulatory institutions, and Union leadership remains an important avenue for advancing labour relations and addressing outstanding employment concerns. KMPDU recognises the value of constructive dialogue in bringing stakeholders together around shared responsibilities and practical solutions.

However, meaningful progress must be reflected in tangible outcomes. Discussions on outstanding CBAs must translate into timely action, including the completion and signing of agreements and appropriate follow-through on the commitments made by the relevant parties.

The Union remains committed to pursuing engagement that advances the interests of its members while promoting accountability and stronger working relationships with healthcare employers and other stakeholders.

Honouring Agreements, Protecting Workers’ Rights

KMPDU reiterates its commitment to advocating for fair working conditions, timely progress on outstanding CBAs, and the protection of healthcare workers’ welfare. The engagement with KUTRRH CEO Dr. Zeinab Gura, SRC, and KMPDU Nairobi Chapter leaders reflects the Union’s continued efforts to advance these priorities through dialogue and stakeholder collaboration.

Our position remains clear: honour agreements, protect workers’ welfare, and put patients first. Safeguarding the rights and dignity of healthcare workers is integral to building a motivated workforce and strengthening healthcare delivery for all.
