NAIROBI: Oct 20, 2026
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU), through its Nairobi Chapter, continues to emphasise the importance of organizing and collective action in protecting doctors’ rights, advancing workers’ welfare and strengthening Kenya’s healthcare system.
Under the theme Organizing 101, the initiative highlights the need to equip young doctors with the knowledge, skills and collective strength to understand their labour rights, confront unfair workplace practices and participate meaningfully in shaping the future of the medical profession.
Building Collective Strength Among Young Doctors
Effective union organizing begins with awareness, solidarity and a shared understanding of workers’ rights. For young doctors entering the profession, understanding labour relations and the role of collective representation is essential to navigating workplace challenges and protecting their professional interests.
KMPDU recognises that an informed and organized membership is fundamental to building a strong union capable of advocating for fair working conditions, professional dignity and the welfare of doctors across the country.
Organizing for Justice and Accountability
The initiative reinforces the importance of collective action in addressing unjust labour practices and ensuring that the interests of healthcare workers remain central to decisions affecting the health sector.
As KMPDU Nairobi Chapter underscores, when employers and economic interests organize around their priorities, workers must also have the structures, knowledge and collective voice necessary to defend their rights and dignity.
For doctors, this means strengthening solidarity, understanding the power of collective bargaining and actively participating in union activities that advance shared interests.
A Health System That Respects Workers and Patients
The welfare of healthcare professionals is closely linked to the quality of care patients receive. A health system that values its workforce must promote fair working conditions, protect professional dignity and create an environment in which doctors can deliver safe and effective care.
Through organizing and member education, KMPDU seeks to strengthen the collective voice of doctors while championing a healthcare system that treats both workers and patients with dignity.
Organizing is the foundation of collective strength. By equipping young doctors with knowledge, solidarity and a shared purpose, KMPDU continues to advance justice, protect doctors’ welfare and champion a stronger health system for all.
