MOMBASA: Oct 27, 2026
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has commenced negotiations with the national government on the 2025–2029 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), marking a critical step in the Union’s efforts to advance doctors’ welfare, improve terms of service, and strengthen working conditions across Kenya’s healthcare system.
The national-level negotiations are taking place from 26 to 27 October 2026, with county-level negotiations scheduled for 29 to 30 October 2026. The upcoming county negotiations follow an agreement on a centralised negotiation framework involving the Council of Governors (CoG) and the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC).
Advancing Doctors’ Welfare Through Collective Bargaining
The 2025–2029 CBA negotiations provide an important platform for addressing doctors’ employment terms, professional welfare, and working conditions. Through collective bargaining, KMPDU seeks to secure fair and sustainable terms of service that recognise doctors’ contributions to healthcare delivery and support a stronger, more effective health workforce.
The Union remains focused on ensuring that the negotiations address the welfare of doctors while promoting working environments that enable healthcare professionals to deliver quality services to patients.
Centralised Framework for County-Level Negotiations
Following engagement with the Council of Governors and the SRC, county-level negotiations are scheduled to commence on 29 and 30 October 2026 under a centralised framework.
This approach provides a common platform for negotiations involving county governments and the Union. KMPDU remains committed to engaging county government representatives constructively and pursuing fair, equitable, and sustainable terms of service. As negotiations commence, the priority is to ensure that the collective bargaining process delivers meaningful progress towards protecting doctors’ professional dignity, improving their working conditions, and strengthening healthcare delivery across Kenya.
Sustaining Constructive Engagement and Keeping Members Informed
As negotiations progress at both national and county levels, KMPDU will continue to advocate for outcomes that protect doctors’ welfare, improve terms of service, and strengthen the working environment across the healthcare system.
The Union recognises the importance of sustained dialogue, collective representation, and accountability throughout the bargaining process. Members will continue to receive updates as the negotiations progress.

KMPDU remains steadfast in its commitment to securing fair and sustainable terms of service for doctors through constructive engagement and effective collective bargaining.
