LIVERPOOL: June 29, 2025
KMPDU was proud to take part in the recently held UNISON Annual Delegate Conference in Liverpool, England, representing Kenya’s healthcare workforce on the global stage.
Our National Treasurer, Dr. Mercy Nabwire, who also serves as KMPDU’s Head of Global Solidarity, attended the conference and shared insights into the union’s grassroots approach to organizing doctors across both public and private sectors in Kenya. She emphasized the critical need for inclusive, member-led unions that bring together all health workers under one strong, united voice.
Strengthening Global Solidarity
This international engagement further deepened KMPDU’s ties with global partners, especially Public Services International (PSI), of which UNISON is a key affiliate.
The conference offered a vital platform for:
Shared learning
Cross-border solidarity
Joint advocacy on labour rights and healthcare justice
KMPDU highlighted the unique challenges facing Kenyan doctors, ranging from delayed remuneration to unsafe working conditions, while also drawing valuable lessons from union movements in the UK, US, and other countries.
These global exchanges are shaping KMPDU’s strategic direction, reinforcing the belief that international collaboration is essential in amplifying the collective voice of health workers and building resilient, equitable health systems.
