NAIROBI: SEP 19, 2025
Today at State House, KMPDU joined H.E. President William Samoei Ruto and the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Hon. Aden Duale, for the official launch of the Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), which will extend coverage to 2.2 million vulnerable Kenyans.
In his address, the President reaffirmed his government’s commitment to respecting Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) and delivering on promises made to health workers. Key announcements included:
✅ Immediate absorption of UHC staff — including 200 doctors — into permanent and pensionable terms.
✅ A pledge for the employment of more doctors to strengthen and sustain Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
✅ Commitment to ensuring fair and direct absorption of health workers in line with CBA provisions.
✅ Assurance that interns will be paid as per the CBA, with those locked out in Kiambu redeployed to other facilities to guarantee uninterrupted service and training.
This marks a renewed government commitment to valuing doctors, protecting health workers, and delivering equitable, quality healthcare to all Kenyans.
As KMPDU, we welcome these commitments and will continue to hold government accountable to ensure they are fully implemented. When health workers are respected and supported, patients and communities thrive.
