KMPDU at the World AIDS Day 2025

Kenya Records 90% Drop in AIDS-Related Deaths as 1.3 Million Access Treatment. KMPDU Calls for Sustained Investment to Achieve #EndAIDSby2030

NAIROBI: November 30, 2025

KMPDU celebrates Kenya’s remarkable progress in the national HIV response, marked by a 90% reduction in AIDS-related deaths and 1.3 million Kenyans now receiving treatment. This achievement demonstrates what is possible when public health programmes are prioritized, properly coordinated, and supported by dedicated healthcare workers across the country.

As a union, we reaffirm our commitment to the “One Race, One Goal” campaign, an initiative focused on ending the Triple Threat of HIV, teenage pregnancy, and gender-based violence. These challenges continue to undermine community health and place immense pressure on the health system, especially at the primary care level.

Kenya’s ambition to #EndAIDSby2030, anchored within the Taifa Care Universal Health Coverage framework, will only be realized if the health workforce is well supported. This means:

  • Adequate staffing across all facilities

  • Fair remuneration and safe working conditions

  • Consistent investment in training, infrastructure, and essential commodities

  • Transparent and sustainable government resource allocation

A resilient health system cannot exist without the people who keep it running. Protecting the gains made in the HIV response, and accelerating progress in the years ahead, requires unwavering support for the doctors, nurses, clinical officers, laboratory officers, and all frontline workers who deliver care daily.

A well-run marathon for a healthier, stronger, more resilient Kenya. Together, we move forward.
