Labour Day: Honouring the Dignity of Work and the Struggle for Justice

Today, we honor the dignity of work and the resilience of every worker who keeps this country moving.

From healthcare workers standing long hours in understaffed facilities, to every Kenyan striving daily to earn an honest living, the labour force remains the backbone of our nation. Their commitment sustains essential services, drives productivity, and upholds the wellbeing of society.

However, celebration alone is not enough.

Labour Day must also serve as a call to action.

A call for fair remuneration.
A call for safe and dignified working conditions.
A call for respect, justice, and protection in every workplace.

As we reflect on the progress made in advancing workers’ rights, we must remain clear-eyed about the challenges that persist. Many workers continue to face systemic barriers, including delayed compensation, unsafe working environments, and inadequate staffing levels that compromise both service delivery and worker wellbeing.

No worker should have to continuously struggle for what is rightfully theirs.

KMPDU remains committed to standing firm in solidarity with all workers, organizing for meaningful reform, and advocating for systems that protect labour rights rather than undermine them.

A nation that values its workers is a nation that thrives.

Happy Labour Day.
