Today, KMPDU is proud to celebrate the full restoration of all promotions for doctors in Garissa County, with every promoted doctor now receiving the salary and benefits that rightfully accompany their new positions.
A Journey of Determination
The journey began on 5 December 2025, when KMPDU hosted the Governor of Garissa County for high-level discussions on issues affecting doctors. The meeting culminated in a definitive agreement that paved the way for the implementation of long-overdue promotions.
By 16 December 2025, the promotions had been formally effected, marking what appeared to be the successful resolution of a long-standing concern.
However, that progress was short-lived.
Just one day later, the Chairperson of the County Public Service Board unexpectedly nullified the promotions, creating uncertainty for the affected doctors and undermining the gains that had been achieved through dialogue.
Standing Together in the Face of Setbacks
Rather than accepting the reversal, KMPDU acted immediately.
On 20 December 2025, the Union convened a Kamukunji with the affected doctors to provide clarity, reaffirm its commitment, and assure members that every available avenue would be pursued to restore their rights.
The message was clear: no doctor would face this challenge alone.
Armed with the collective support of its members, KMPDU intensified engagements with the County Government and the County Public Service Board.
Dialogue That Delivered Results
On 5 January 2026, KMPDU held a decisive consultative meeting with county leadership and the Public Service Board.
The engagement resulted in the full restoration of all promotions.
By the following day, 6 January 2026, fresh promotion letters had been issued by the County Public Service Board, and the changes were reflected in the January payroll.
What had briefly become a setback was transformed into a victory through constructive dialogue, principled negotiation, and steadfast advocacy.
Justice Delivered
Today, every promoted consultant is receiving the remuneration, benefits, and professional recognition that accompany their promotion.
This outcome is more than an administrative correction.
It is the restoration of fairness.
It is recognition of professional merit.
It is confirmation that agreements reached through dialogue must be respected and implemented.
Most importantly, it demonstrates that collective action remains one of the strongest tools available to healthcare workers in protecting their rights and advancing their welfare.
