The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has officially suspended the doctors’ strike in Kericho County following successful negotiations with the County Government and the signing of a comprehensive Implementation Matrix to guide the execution of all agreed resolutions. The decision paves the way for the restoration of healthcare services across public health facilities in the county after days of industrial action.
The breakthrough follows intensive engagements between KMPDU and the County Government aimed at resolving the issues that had prompted the industrial action. Through the signed Implementation Matrix, both parties have committed to a structured roadmap that outlines clear responsibilities, timelines, and mechanisms for implementing the agreed resolutions, providing a framework for accountability and sustained industrial harmony.
Following the agreement, KMPDU directed all doctors in Kericho County to resume duty within 48 hours, marking the end of the industrial action while reaffirming the Union’s commitment to safeguarding members’ welfare through dialogue backed by firm implementation measures. Healthcare services are expected to normalize as doctors return to their workstations and continue serving residents across the county.
While welcoming the progress made, KMPDU has emphasized that signing an agreement is only the beginning. The Union will closely monitor every commitment contained in the Implementation Matrix to ensure that the County Government delivers on its obligations within the agreed timelines. Monitoring and follow-up will remain a key priority until all resolutions have been fully implemented.
The Union also expressed appreciation to doctors in Kericho for their patience, resilience, discipline, and solidarity throughout the industrial action.
