KMPDU and Kisii County Reach Key Understandings on Promotions, Redesignations, and Salary Delays

A high-level consultative meeting held on 8 July 2026 between the KMPDU Nyanza Branch leadership and the Kisii County Government, chaired by the Deputy Governor, has marked an important step toward resolving pending labour disputes affecting doctors in Kisii County.

The engagement brought together union and county leaders in a structured dialogue focused on addressing longstanding concerns that have impacted the welfare of KMPDU members and the stability of healthcare service delivery in the county.

Key Outcomes of the Meeting

Roadmap for Pending Promotions

The parties agreed on a roadmap to immediately process long-overdue promotions for eligible KMPDU members. KMPDU emphasized that timely career progression is essential for motivation, retention, and recognition of doctors’ professional contributions.

Immediate Attention to Redesignations

Plans were also reviewed to ensure appropriate redesignations for consultants and specialized doctors, enabling eligible members to be placed in the correct career-progression job groups without further delay.

Commitments on Salary Delays

The County Government provided commitments aimed at minimizing recurring delays in the payment of salaries and benefits, an issue that has caused significant financial hardship for many doctors.

KMPDU reiterated its previously issued notice regarding members’ actions on the 5th, 10th, and 15th of each succeeding month should salaries and benefits remain unsettled.

Protecting Healthcare Services Through Dialogue

The consultative meeting reflects a shared recognition that unresolved labour issues can affect both healthcare workers and the continuity of healthcare services.

By addressing promotions, redesignations, and salary delays through structured engagement, both parties aim to avert potential service disruptions and promote stable healthcare delivery across Kisii County.

KMPDU’s Position

KMPDU remains committed to constructive dialogue while firmly defending the rights, welfare, and professional dignity of doctors. The Union will closely monitor the implementation of the agreed roadmap and continue engaging the County Government to ensure that commitments made during the meeting translate into tangible outcomes for members.

A stronger healthcare system begins with fair treatment of the doctors who serve it.
