The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) continues to strengthen its global labour partnerships as Dr Davji Bhimji Atellah, Secretary General of KMPDU, and Dr Idan Miskellah, Deputy Secretary General, represent Kenyan healthcare workers at the Jobs With Justice National Conference in Atlanta, Georgia, United States.
The conference has brought together labour leaders, worker organisations, and social justice movements from across the world to exchange strategies, strengthen solidarity, and confront the growing challenges affecting workers globally. For KMPDU, participation in such platforms reinforces the Union’s belief that the struggle for dignified work transcends borders and that healthcare workers everywhere face interconnected challenges requiring collective solutions.
As part of the conference activities, KMPDU leadership joined international labour movements in a peaceful demonstration advocating for fair wages, dignified working conditions, stronger labour protections, and an end to exploitative systems that undermine workers’ welfare. The demonstration reflected a shared global call for justice, equity, and stronger public institutions capable of protecting both workers and the communities they serve.
The issues raised resonate deeply with the realities faced by healthcare workers in Kenya. From fair remuneration and safe working conditions to adequate staffing, medical cover, and sustainable investment in public healthcare systems, KMPDU continues to champion reforms that place both healthcare workers and patients at the centre of decision-making.
The Union’s participation at the conference also highlights the importance of international labour solidarity in advancing national struggles. Whether advocating for fair implementation of Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), improved working conditions, or stronger public health financing, KMPDU recognises that organised labour movements grow stronger through shared experiences, partnerships, and collective action.
Across continents, one truth remains constant: when workers unite, systems transform. From Nairobi to Atlanta, the call for fairness, dignity, social justice, and accountable public systems continues to gain strength.
KMPDU remains committed to standing shoulder to shoulder with progressive labour movements across the world in advancing workers’ rights, protecting public services, and building resilient systems that serve people—not profit.
Solidarity knows no borders.
In unity, there is strength.
Solidarity forever.
