Nairobi Doctors Suspend Strike After Securing Key Wins

After 39 days of steadfast solidarity, the Nairobi County doctors’ strike has been officially suspended. The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has successfully secured a clear path forward on all nine demands presented to the County Government and Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

Nairobi County Wins

  1. Reinstatement of all dismissed doctors

  2. Issuance of 369 Permanent and Pensionable (PnP) appointment letters by 1st May 2025

  3. Payment of Mama Lucy arrears dating back to 2021, reflected in May 2025 payslips

  4. Gratuity for doctors formerly under NMS to be paid by July 2025

  5. Promotions: 72 doctors to Job Group S, 80 to Q, and 78 to R by 15th July 2025

  6. A 4% mortgage scheme is now in advanced stages of negotiation

KNH Wins

  1. Reinstatement of suspended doctors

  2. Salary harmonization commitments underway

  3. Promotion of 26 consultants (March 2025), with the next batch expected in May 2025
