Unity remains the greatest strength of the medical profession. During our engagement with doctors in Kisumu County and the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH), KMPDU celebrated the progress achieved through collective action while reaffirming its commitment to confronting the challenges that continue to undermine the welfare of doctors.
At JOOTRH, doctors voiced growing concerns over persistent workplace challenges, including payroll inconsistencies and stalled career progression. These issues have remained unresolved for far too long and continue to affect morale, professional growth, and service delivery. Beginning Monday, 9 March 2026, KMPDU will intensify its engagement to ensure these longstanding concerns receive the urgent attention they deserve. Doctors deserve a workplace that respects their contribution and upholds fair labour practices.
In Kisumu County, career progression has remained largely stagnant since 2019, denying many doctors the recognition and advancement they have earned through years of dedicated service. With only 37 days remaining in the 90-day implementation window previously agreed upon, the Union expects meaningful action from the County Government. KMPDU will issue a formal demand letter outlining the outstanding issues, and should the commitments remain unfulfilled, the Union is prepared to pursue lawful industrial action in defence of its members.
KMPDU commends the leadership of Dr. Vitalis Ogola and Dr. Rombossia, whose dedication and steadfast advocacy continue to strengthen the voice of doctors in the region. Their leadership reflects the values of solidarity, accountability, and unwavering commitment to the profession.
The journey toward fair working conditions, career progression, and respect for healthcare professionals is ongoing, but every achievement reinforces the power of collective action. KMPDU remains committed to standing with every doctor and specialist whose rights have been overlooked, ensuring that no member is left behind.
Together, we will continue to advocate, engage, and, where necessary, act decisively to protect the dignity of the profession and strengthen healthcare for the people of Kenya.
When doctors stand together, progress is not a possibility, it is inevitable.
