The KMPDU Nairobi Branch Annual General Meeting convened just weeks after the conclusion of a landmark 39-day industrial action, during which Nairobi County formally committed to meeting all 9 demands presented by its doctors. These commitments followed sustained union pressure and solidarity on the frontlines of healthcare delivery in the capital.
While AGMs provide an important platform to address regional issues and strengthen union cohesion, the focus in Nairobi remains clear: accountability and follow-through. The Nairobi Branch AGM emphasized the urgency of ensuring that the county government delivers on its promises. This includes the reinstatement of dismissed doctors, issuance of 369 permanent and pensionable letters, payment of 2021 salary arrears at Mama Lucy Hospital, and provision of gratuity for former NMS doctors. The county must also implement the promotion of 230 doctors without delay.
Additional deliverables include operationalizing a 4% mortgage facility, reinstating and harmonizing salaries for doctors seconded to KNH, and promoting 26 consultants. The union has made it clear: commitments are not enough; implementation is the true measure of progress. The Nairobi Branch remains vigilant, ready to act if the county fails to meet its obligations to the doctors who serve this city daily.
