MWATATE – July 15, 2026
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Taita Taveta Branch Executive Committee (BEC) today held a consultative meeting with the Taita Taveta County Government, led by the Deputy Governor, to formally introduce the newly elected branch leadership and reaffirm the Union’s commitment to advancing the welfare of doctors through structured dialogue and continuous engagement.
The meeting provided an important platform for both parties to review key challenges affecting doctors in the county and explore practical solutions aimed at improving working conditions, safeguarding welfare, and strengthening healthcare service delivery.
Among the priority issues raised by the Union were the persistent delays in salary payments, which continue to place unnecessary financial strain on healthcare workers and their families. The Branch also called for the expedited processing of pending promotions to ensure that doctors receive the career progression opportunities they have earned through service and professional development.
Healthcare access and staff welfare also featured prominently in the discussions, with KMPDU advocating for the renewal and enhancement of the county’s medical cover to guarantee reliable and comprehensive healthcare for doctors and their dependents. The Union further highlighted concerns regarding unremitted pension contributions, particularly for officers approaching retirement, stressing the need for urgent intervention to protect the long-term financial security of affected members.
Both the County Government and the Union acknowledged the importance of maintaining open channels of communication and working collaboratively to address these concerns. As a key outcome of the meeting, it was agreed that a CBA Implementation Monitoring Committee meeting will be convened within the next 30 days to assess progress on the identified issues, receive formal feedback from the County Government, and agree on concrete timelines and next steps.
KMPDU welcomes the constructive engagement demonstrated by the Taita Taveta County leadership and remains committed to ensuring that all outstanding matters are addressed comprehensively and in accordance with existing agreements and labour commitments.
The Union will continue to monitor progress closely and keep members informed as engagements advance.
Strong partnerships, accountable leadership, and continuous dialogue remain essential in securing better welfare for doctors and stronger healthcare services for the people of Taita Taveta County.
In solidarity.
